Alabama was a mixed bag. Birmingham police tried to curtail our activities. Tuscaloosa and Montgomery police let us do virtually whatever we wanted. They had been to Birmingham to check us out and decided to give us free reign! Thus is the power of a good reputation and a well-disciplined operation. We have seen this time and time again.

In Birmingham, the traffic stretched for miles. We were only able to reach the cars closest to the curb with literature, but still gave out over 1,000 pieces!

Beverly Murch holding Josiah, Evan, Elijah and Hannah witness for the babies. Our line stretched out for over a mile in this traffic!

We were joined by several preachers along the way.  Preacher Ed Gauthwaite of Portland, Oregon happened to be working in Birmingham this week and joined us for a couple of days of activities. He cruised the streets in his van while his wife and children held signs. Police were put squad cars in the median strip to keep us from handing literature out from there. their efforts notwithstanding, we got an incredible amount of literature passed out!

In Tuscaloosa, the Chief of Police introduced himself to Bruce right away and basically told him that we were free to to whatever we wanted as long as we didn't block traffic or pedestrians. He meant it! We moved freely through traffic, distributing tons of literature. We had preachers with truth horns of four busy street corners. We had 100 people on the street!

Banners, preachers and signs adorn the triangle median. The police here were so accommodating, they had officers to escort us across the street and stopped traffic so we could get across through heavy flow!  Literature distribution was aggressive and successful. It was rare for someone to turn down the flyers.

Children always play a prominent role in our displays, and they love to be a part of the witness for the babies. At right, the police monitor the situation from a hill above the intersection. Local store owners allowed us to park the trailer in their parking lot, and it was over all a wonderful stop!  The media stopped to interview several of the people that were present with small children, choosing at first a local man who was a pastor who had joined us. They seemed surprised that there was anybody local participating.

In Montgomery, we again had free reign in the streets. Pastor Matt reports that more literature was distributed on this tour than at any tour in the history of the Missionaries!

Tom Washburn of Tennessee looks on as his son blows a shofar - a ram's horn used by the Jews as a call to battle. Police again allowed our folks to wander through traffic distributing huge quantities of literature.

Full-time missionary and street preacher Drew Heiss accompanies three of his children as they witness against the slaughter. Bruce preaches in the thick traffic at the intersection.
