Full Quiver Mission at the Death March
(March for Women's Lives)

The Murch Family travelled to Washington, DC for the much-bally-hooed "March For Women's Lives" on Sunday, April 25, 2004. We tried to join up with several groups we knew were there, but with little success. There were several hundred thousand people present, and by mid-morning, so many streets were blocked off, it was impossible to meet anybody anywhere. So, for most of the day, we set up our display as a family in the most effective areas we could find.

We started out early in the morning, leaving at 4:00 am from our home in Virginia and arriving in DC just before 8 am. We joined a small group of friends from the Missionaries to the Preborn in Milwaukee at the Capitol Reflecting Pool, where an apostate "church service for choice" was being held. It featured "praise and worship" and "preaching", and hundreds of "religious" pro-aborts at this service sponsored by the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

Also present were several pro-abortion "clergy".

Bruce interrupted the interview by telling the "priest" that he was not talking about the God of the Bible and that he must repent of his sin in representing God in this wicked way.The press folks approached Bruce, who just walked away. RIGHT: Another apostate "minister" carries a "Newspeak" sign. He could not fathom that the statements on his sign were mutually exclusive.

Evan (10) takes a turn with the Truth Horn, telling the crowd that God will not bless a nation that murders its children, and that their blood will bring His judgment. Evan started preaching when he was seven years old.

After the Abominable Worship Service was over, we tried to hook up with others we knew were here at the event. So many roads were blocked of, that proved impossible. We ended up setting up with just our family right behind the main stage where the "celebrities" would be speaking. It was an excellent spot with a lot of foot and car traffic.

The fellow at the left listened intently and engaged Bruce in conversation, very much moved that we would assemble in the midst of such a hostile crowd in defense of the unborn.

LEFT: This Lieutenant assembled an arrest team to remove the Murches because they were "in a permitted area". In other words, because the Death March folks had gotten a permit, the officer's position was that this was grounds to deny us our First Amendment Right to be in that public area. Bruce informed Lt. Davis that there were federal appellate decisions that made it clear that a person's first amendment rights cannot be denied in a "traditional free speech forum" (like sidewalks and public parks) simply because a group has taken out a permit to hold an event there. On camera and for the record, the Lt. said that we would be arrested if we did not leave immediately, and showed Bruce the boundries of the permitted area, Bruce moved the family across the street and kitty-corner to the previous spot by about 50 feet (photo at right)

FROM THE FRONT: This was not a bad spot. We "circled the wagons" for maximum visual effect.

After a while though, more officers came and told us we were STILL in the "permit area", in spite of the specific instructions. When Bruce argued with them that we had already complied with the instructions to move, they assembled YET ANOTHER arrest team! Bruce sent his family out of the area and with son Ben (19) operating the video camera, Bruce went back across the street to the lieutenant.

FROM THE BACK: We had an excellent postion for folks to continue to see us and approach us, though not as good as the original spot.

Bruce was actually going to the officer he had just had a confrontation with, in order to enlist his help! Lt. Davis smiled when Bruce told him of the predicament. He said, "You feel like you're getting jerked around, don't you"? Bruce answered in the affirmative. The Lieutenant started walking toward the other officers that had threatened Bruce and his family with arrest. He said, "it's ironic. I'm a Christian man, and I was so angry that you were threatening to take me to court for violating your rights". Bruce answered, "Had I known you were a Christian, I would not have made such a threat, because it would violate Scripture to take a brother to court. It would have been between you and me and the Church."

Lt. Davis spoke to the men, made a couple of phone calls, then came back to Bruce and told him that he and his family could come back and set up the signs! Then he pulled Bruce aside and told him that all morning he had watched our family at the Abominable Worship Service, and that we were in a permit area then, too. But he did not tell us to move because nobody had officially complained about our being there! Bruce thanked the Lieutenant and blessed him for his intervention on our behalf.

We stayed there until the event was well underway and the crowd had all gone in to the Mall to see the celebrities.

All in all, a great event. The Word went out, the Gospel was preached, wickedness was exposed and those who heard are without excuse. May God water the seed that was planted. Amen.
